Problem Statement
Central BioHub GmbH operates a specialized online marketplace for biomedical samples. Due to increasing difficulties with sample search, users frequently contacted support and requested individual Excel lists. The project's goal was to fundamentally optimize the search and comparison process, thereby significantly improving the platform's usability and efficiency.

Objective & Approach
Based on an as-is/to-be analysis and following the Human-Centered Design approach, we developed an interactive prototype in a cross-functional team. The focus was on faster sample search, better comparability, and improved clarity to reduce support requests and make usage more intuitive.

Research & Personas
Stakeholder interviews and analysis of support requests revealed key pain points in the existing search function, particularly with filters, comparability, and result overview. Subsequent usability tests with six regular users from the biotechnology industry provided valuable insights into real usage contexts. Based on this, we developed personas and an optimized user flow.



Prototyping & Results
The clickable mid-fidelity prototype was evaluated in usability tests using the think-aloud method. The results led to significant optimization of search logic and information presentation. After implementation, click paths were reduced by 40%, while support requests decreased despite increasing order numbers. 85% of users rated the new filter logic positively.
